Why MindView

Most therapy in Yonkers has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Yonkers deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

The reason to want CBT specifically is that it is accountable. It has a defined structure, it asks for something between sessions, and it produces a number you and your therapist can look at to decide whether to continue. If previous therapy felt pleasant and directionless, that accountability is probably what was missing.

MindView Therapy provides CBT for adults across Yonkers by telehealth throughout New York.

What CBT is

The premise is that thoughts, feelings and behavior move together, and that the accessible handles are the first and third. A feeling will not change on command. What you concluded can be examined, and what you do can be altered, and the feeling shifts behind them.

The reason it counts as a protocol is that conclusions get tested rather than discussed. Anxiety and low mood are sustained by predictions that never get checked, and the behavior that follows them, avoiding, withdrawing, over-preparing, is what stops the checking from ever happening. CBT stages the test on purpose, in increments small enough to finish.

What a session involves

About 50 minutes, and it has the same shape every week: review what you practiced, take one situation apart in detail, learn or sharpen a skill, decide what you will do before next time.

Taking a situation apart works on a specific moment rather than a topic. You separate the event from the conclusion you reached, then look at what that conclusion made you do next. The tools are named in your plan: thought records, cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, graded exposure.

Practice between sessions carries most of the work, and it is small by design, usually around ten minutes.

What CBT is used for

The research base is strongest for anxiety and depression, where CBT is a first-line psychological treatment in most guidelines, with dedicated protocols for panic, social anxiety, phobias, sleep problems and perfectionism.

It is not the right instrument for every goal. Wanting to understand where a pattern began, rather than change what it does now, is better served by psychodynamic therapy. Read the full method on our cognitive behavioral therapy page.

Who practices it here

CBT is the shared backbone of the clinical team rather than one clinician’s specialty. Every MindView clinician works with it: Michelle Zak, Seona King, Nirja Mistry, Evelyn Rivas and Jordyn Modelevsky.

Doing this work in Yonkers

Yonkers has a commuting pattern that decides, more than anything else, whether a course of therapy gets finished here.

Mean travel time to work is 35.6 minutes and 20.4% of commuters travel an hour or more each way (US Census Bureau, American Community Survey 2020-2024 five-year estimates). One commuter in five is spending two hours a day in transit before anything else is scheduled. An evening therapy appointment that sits on the far side of that trip is the appointment that gets cancelled first when a week gets difficult, and CBT is unusually sensitive to that, because a 12 to 20 session course depends on the sessions being consecutive.

Only 11.6% of Yonkers workers work from home, below the Queens rate of 12.9% (ACS 2020-2024), so most people here are not solving this with a hybrid schedule. The realistic answer is removing the travel from the appointment itself. 92.0% of households have a broadband subscription, so for most people the format is not the constraint (ACS 2020-2024, which measures what households subscribe to rather than what is available at the address).

Yonkers is also not a student city, which shapes who walks in. Sarah Lawrence College enrolls 1,781, the smallest student body of the New York cities we serve (New York State Education Department, 2024-25). The median age is 39.9 and 23.8% of residents are aged 18 to 34. Most people booking here are established in work and family life, and the presenting problem is more often a long-running pattern that has recently become unmanageable than a first episode.

How long it takes, and how you will know

A typical course runs roughly 12 to 20 sessions depending on your goals. That is a range rather than a promise.

You set a 0 to 10 baseline at intake, and monthly you and your therapist review standardized measures against it. Moving means continue. Flat after a fair trial means the plan changes.

Insurance

CBT is billed under the standard psychotherapy codes, so there is no separate CBT rate.

We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

I commute into Manhattan. Can I do a session from the office? Yes, if you have somewhere private enough to talk. You need to be physically in New York State, which both Yonkers and Manhattan satisfy.

Is CBT just positive thinking? No. You are asked to test what you already believe, not to adopt a cheerier view.

Does video CBT work as well? The evidence on video-delivered CBT is extensive and shows comparable outcomes for anxiety and depression. An agenda, a skill and a practice task travel well.

Can I combine CBT with medication? Yes. The combination is well supported for moderate to severe anxiety and depression. MindView clinicians do not prescribe, but your therapist can coordinate with your prescriber.

What if my schedule is unpredictable? Say so at intake. Consistency matters for a structured course, and it is easier to build a plan around a difficult schedule than to repair a course that has gone intermittent.

If you are in crisis

If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, do not wait on a booking form. Call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
