Why MindView

Most therapy in Yonkers has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Yonkers deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Nobody abandons their values on purpose. They defer them, one reasonable postponement at a time, until the someday list is doing all the living on their behalf.

MindView Therapy provides acceptance and commitment therapy for adults in Yonkers, by telehealth throughout New York.

What ACT actually is

Acceptance and commitment therapy is built for the gap between what matters to you and what your weeks contain. Its method is not to win the argument with your thoughts. Defusion teaches you to hold a thought loosely enough that it stops functioning as an instruction. Acceptance means making room for feelings you cannot dismiss, which is a strategy, not a surrender. Mindfulness keeps you in contact with the present. Values name the direction. Committed action, the part that actually changes a life, is the small deliberate step taken in that direction each week, comfortable or not.

What a session involves

You and your therapist look at where the week actually went, find the point where a value lost to a feeling, and work the skill that fits that point. Then the next step gets chosen: specific, scheduled, small enough to survive reality. The session is the planning room; the week is where the therapy happens.

The frame around it is the same as every MindView course. Intake with baseline ratings, then your full history and a treatment plan that names the methods, weekly sessions, monthly standardized measures. Courses often run 8 to 16 sessions depending on goals, and that is a range, never a promise.

What ACT is used for

ACT holds a substantial research base for anxiety, depression, stress and burnout, and chronic pain and illness. It is also well matched to perfectionism and to lives that have narrowed by increments, where each single retreat was reasonable and the sum is a smaller life. It is a strong fit when the hard thing is not a distortion but a fact, a diagnosis, a loss, a limit, and the task is carrying it without giving up the rest.

ACT in Yonkers

The someday list in Yonkers has a particular texture. The guitar in the closet. Friends not seen since the second child. The walk along the Hudson that never quite happens. None of it abandoned, all of it deferred, and the deferral always has a good reason, because with a mean travel time to work of 35.6 minutes each way (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates), the discretionary hours in a week here are few and already spoken for.

ACT does not respond to that by demanding a new schedule. It asks a smaller, sharper question: which one deferred value gets ten minutes this week, on purpose, tiredness included? “Too tired tonight” is the perfect long-term veto precisely because it is always true and never checkable. The method’s answer is willingness, which is not willpower: not forcing yourself to feel energetic, but taking the valued step with the tiredness along for the ride. Sessions happen by video, one private hour at home, inside the same squeezed week the work is about. More at our Yonkers page.

Insurance

ACT is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate ACT rate. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

Between the commute and the kids I get maybe an hour a day. Can this work? Yes. The method sizes the action to the life you have, one small value-guided step a week, and the session itself is a video hour at home.

Can I take a session from my office or the train? From a private office in New York State, yes. From a train seat, no. Privacy is the requirement, and you need to be physically in the state.

Is acceptance just settling? No. Acceptance takes the effort you have been spending on an unwinnable internal fight and releases it toward what you value. Settling is what the fight was causing.

What if I do not know what my values are anymore? That is common after years of deferral, and it is workable. Values clarification is a named early step in the course, not a prerequisite for starting.

How long does ACT take? Often 8 to 16 sessions, depending on goals. The monthly measures tell you and your therapist whether the estimate is holding.
