Every clinician state-licensed

Why MindView

Most therapy in Brooklyn has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Brooklyn deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Brooklyn’s work week has quietly split in two, and both halves have the same therapy problem: the hybrid worker whose Tuesdays are free but never used, and the student whose semester swallows every routine by week six.

MindView Therapy provides cognitive behavioral therapy for adults in Brooklyn, by telehealth throughout New York. Our nearest office is in Jamaica, Queens, one borough over.

What makes it CBT and not just therapy

Three things, and they are checkable. Sessions run on an agenda: review the week’s practice, take one situation apart in detail, learn or sharpen a named skill, agree the next task. The skills have names, thought records, behavioral activation, cognitive restructuring, graded exposure, because named tools can be taught, practiced and evaluated. And the work continues between sessions, since one hour a week changes little unless the other hours get involved. The between-session task is usually small, ten minutes or so, and aimed at one specific target.

CBT is among the most heavily studied psychotherapies for anxiety and depression and a first-line treatment for both. It is not a cure-all, and a page that implied otherwise would be lying to you.

Course length and how progress is checked

A typical course runs roughly 12 to 20 sessions depending on goals, a range rather than a promise. You set a 0 to 10 baseline at intake, standardized measures get reviewed monthly, and a plan that stays flat after a fair trial gets changed rather than extended on hope.

What CBT treats

The course is most often built for anxiety and depression, and the same structure serves OCD alongside exposure work, panic, social anxiety, stress and burnout. If a different modality fits your goals better, you will hear that at intake rather than discover it at session ten. We practice several, and matching the method to the goal is part of the job.

CBT across Brooklyn

Here is why structure is the local argument rather than the obstacle. Open-ended therapy leans on habit, and habit is what neither of Brooklyn’s schedule types can supply: 19.1% of Brooklyn workers work from home (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B08006), the second-highest share of the boroughs we serve, with office days that shuffle weekly, while Brooklyn College enrolls 15,643 students and NYC College of Technology in Downtown Brooklyn another 14,588 (NYSED, 2024-25). Shifting office days and semester chaos break routines the same way.

CBT’s advantage is that its structure lives inside the session, not the calendar. Review, one situation, one skill, one task: that fixed internal shape is the stable object a chaotic week can attach to, portable across any location, and the video slot stays put while your location floats between home, office and library. A 12-to-20-session course survives on exactly that. More at our Brooklyn page.

Who practices it here

CBT is the shared foundation of the whole clinical team: Michelle Zak, Seona King, Nirja Mistry, Evelyn Rivas and Jordyn Modelevsky all work with it. Practically, that means no waiting on a single specialist, and a poor fit gets fixed by changing therapist, not method.

Insurance

CBT is billed under standard psychotherapy codes. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

My office days change every week. How does a weekly course survive that? The slot stays fixed while your location floats. Home, office, anywhere private in New York State works.

I am a student. Does the semester calendar break a 12-to-20-session course? Breaks get planned around at intake. Staying in New York keeps sessions running; leaving the state pauses them until you return.

Is CBT just positive thinking? No. You test the conclusions you already hold against evidence, and the accurate ones get problem-solving rather than reframing.

Does video CBT work as well? The research on video-delivered CBT is extensive, with comparable outcomes for anxiety and depression. Agendas and practice tasks transfer cleanly.

Can I combine it with medication? Yes, and the combination is well supported. We do not prescribe, and your therapist coordinates with your prescriber.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
