Why MindView

Most therapy in Staten Island has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Staten Island deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

For decades the practical answer to “where do I get real OCD treatment on Staten Island” involved a bridge or a boat, which is a hard sell on top of a workday that already includes one.

MindView Therapy provides exposure and response prevention for adults on Staten Island, by telehealth throughout New York; the nearest of our offices sits in Jamaica, Queens.

What ERP actually is

OCD runs on the exchange of ritual for relief, and the relief is what renews the contract: each wash, check or mental review teaches the alarm that the ritual was necessary, so the alarm rings louder next time. Exposure and response prevention cancels the contract in ranked steps. You approach a trigger deliberately, leave the ritual undone, and let the anxiety come down on its own, which, with repetition, is what finally re-trains the alarm.

It is the most studied form of CBT for OCD and a first-line treatment. That describes the evidence base, and your own course answers to your own monthly numbers rather than to the literature’s averages.

What a session involves

Planning always precedes practice in this protocol. The exposure hierarchy gets built with your therapist at the treatment-plan stage, triggers ranked from easiest to hardest, alongside the response-prevention targets naming the rituals you will practice not running. Sessions choose and rehearse the next step; the week runs it in the rooms where it lives; standardized measures get reviewed monthly, and a stalled plan gets rebuilt.

Nothing starts at the top of your list, no step happens without your agreement, and between-session practice is engineered to be repeatable inside ordinary days rather than heroic.

What ERP treats

The full range of OCD, checking, contamination, intrusive thoughts, mental rituals, reassurance-seeking, plus phobias, panic, agoraphobia, social anxiety and avoidance-driven anxiety. No diagnosis is required to ask about fit, and the invisible presentations, mental review, silent counting, careful reassurance-fishing, get the same ranked treatment as anything visible.

ERP on Staten Island

The access story is the local story. Protocol-level ERP has historically meant appointments in Manhattan or Brooklyn, and with a mean travel time to work of 43.1 minutes here (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates), adding a specialist trip on top of that day was the barrier that kept treatment theoretical. Video removes it, and loses nothing clinically: in a home-centered borough, half the hierarchy lives at home anyway, the locks, the stove, the garage, the car, and the exposures happen where the rituals do.

One respectful word about the years before now. When treatment costs a bridge toll and a half-day, “managing it” wins by default, and the rituals get grandfathered into family life until nobody in the house remembers ever negotiating them, which is how a decade passes. Managing was rational under the old constraints. The constraints changed. With 10.7% of Staten Island workers working from home (ACS 2020-2024, table B08006), most treatment here fits around a full away-day, and the evening home session is the realistic shape it takes. Insurance

ERP is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate ERP rate. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

Is there actually an ERP provider on Staten Island now? Your sessions happen wherever you are on the island, by video, with a New York-licensed therapist. That is the model, said plainly, and it is how the protocol reaches this borough.

I used to see someone in Manhattan and quit over the commute. How is this different? The trip is gone and the structure is the same kind of protocol work, run in your actual environment instead of an office an hour from it.

Will I have to do exposures on the ferry? Only if ferry-related triggers are on your hierarchy and you agree to the step. Nothing is imposed, ever.

Does insurance cover it? Yes, under standard psychotherapy codes, with the New York plans listed above. Benefits are verified before the first session.

How soon can I start? We respond within one business day and are accepting new clients.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
