Why MindView

Most therapy in Syracuse has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Syracuse deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Every move rewrites an exposure hierarchy: new locks to check, a new sink, a new commute’s worth of triggers, which is why OCD treatment in a city people move through needs to travel with the person.

MindView Therapy provides exposure and response prevention for adults in Syracuse, by telehealth throughout New York.

What ERP actually is

The engine of OCD is simple and stubborn. A trigger produces a spike of fear or doubt, a ritual or an avoidance relieves it, and the relief is what welds the loop shut, because it teaches the brain the ritual was what kept you safe. Exposure and response prevention is the structured practice of opening that loop: approaching the trigger on purpose, skipping the ritual, and letting the anxiety fall on its own, which it does, and which the brain slowly relearns.

ERP is the most studied form of CBT for OCD and a first-line treatment. That sentence describes decades of research, not a personal guarantee, and your own course is tracked with measures rather than assumed to match it.

What a session involves

You and your therapist rank your triggers into a hierarchy at the treatment-plan stage, from mildly annoying to currently unthinkable, and define the response-prevention targets, the checks and reassurances you will practice leaving undone. Sessions choose the next step, rehearse it, and review what last week’s practice showed. The steps run in your real week, between sessions, where the triggers actually live.

Nobody is thrown in unprepared. The pace is agreed, the order is yours, and once a month standardized measures show whether the work is compounding. A plan that is not moving after a fair trial gets rebuilt.

Getting the right method is the harder half in this city. 9.7% of Syracuse adults report having no personal doctor or health care provider (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data), and OCD is among the most commonly misidentified conditions in general practice, routinely treated as ordinary anxiety for years before anyone names it. Clinicians trained specifically in this protocol are scarce upstate, which is the access problem video actually solves.

What ERP treats

ERP is the dedicated protocol for OCD, including checking, contamination fears, intrusive thoughts, mental rituals and reassurance-seeking. The same graded structure treats phobias, panic, agoraphobia, social anxiety, health anxiety and avoidance-driven anxiety generally. You do not need a diagnosis to start the conversation.

ERP in Syracuse

Syracuse is a city of address changes. 26.1% of residents are between 20 and 34 (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B01001), the band whose addresses change most often, and any therapy built on consecutive weeks feels that churn. A video-based ERP course is built to survive it: your hierarchy, your ratings and your momentum move with you, and continuity holds anywhere in New York State. Only leaving the state pauses sessions, which is a licensing fact worth planning around at intake.

A move also does something specific to OCD, and it helps to know it in advance. The unfamiliar kitchen, the unknown neighbors, the lock that feels untested can turn the volume back up, and people read that as relapse. It usually is not. It is re-ranking: specific triggers reset in a new place, while the skill you actually trained, tolerating the spike without ritualizing, carries over intact. The hierarchy gets rebuilt with the same method, faster the second time. More at our Syracuse page.

Insurance

ERP is billed under standard psychotherapy codes; there is no separate ERP rate. We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan before the first session and tell you what you will pay.

Questions people ask before booking

I move apartments almost every year. Does treatment start over each time? No. The method and the skills travel with you. Triggers get re-ranked in the new place, and the course continues rather than restarting.

I leave New York for the summer. What happens to sessions? They pause while you are out of state, because licensure is state-bound, and resume when you are back. Plan the timing at intake so nothing surprises you.

Is ERP safe to do without an in-person therapist nearby? ERP has been delivered and studied by video. Pacing is graded and agreed step by step, and crisis resources are covered at intake before any exposure work begins.

What if my roommates are around during sessions? Headphones and a closed door usually suffice, and privacy logistics are a normal part of booking, not a problem you need to solve alone.

Do you treat health anxiety and checking too? Yes. Ritual- and avoidance-driven anxiety broadly responds to the same structure, health anxiety and checking included.

If you are in crisis

We are not a crisis service. If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911.
