Why MindView
Most therapy in Albany has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.
Plenty of practices take MagnaCare. What you get here is one format for every client: a full intake, a written treatment plan, and standardized measures reviewed with you every month, so you can see whether it is working.
- 01
Intake
What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.
- 02
Your history
Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.
- 03
Treatment plan
Written and collaborative, built against those causes.
- 04
Monthly review
Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.
A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.
Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

MagnaCare in Albany, in short
MindView Therapy is in network for MagnaCare and sees Albany adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. MagnaCare is not a plan anyone shops for. It reaches members through union and Taft-Hartley benefit funds and through employers that fund their own plans, which is why the card usually carries the fund's name with a MagnaCare logo somewhere on it. Your fund sets what a session costs, and we look that number up before you book.
Construction is well paid work in Albany County. The private construction workforce averaged 8,196 jobs across 754 worksites in 2024, at an average of $102,572 a year against $82,387 across all 233,390 covered jobs in the county. That matters for one reason. The building trades are the working life where health coverage most often arrives through a negotiated benefit fund rather than a plan somebody picked, and a fund card answers the question of what therapy costs in a completely different way.
What a session costs when nobody sold you the plan
Most insurance questions start with a plan somebody picked off a marketplace or a benefits portal. A MagnaCare card usually did not arrive that way. It came with a job or with union membership, and the terms behind it were set at a bargaining table you were never in the room for. That changes the question worth asking before a first session, which is not “what does MagnaCare cost” but “what does my fund’s plan cost.”
We are in network with MagnaCare and see Albany adults by secure video anywhere in New York State. The part that actually determines your bill is not the network name on the card. It is the specific fund or employer plan behind it, and that is the piece we check before you book rather than guess at.
Bargained benefits and Albany County construction pay
Albany County’s private construction sector carried 8,196 jobs across 754 worksites in 2024, at an average annual pay of $102,572. That sits well above the $82,387 average paid across all 233,390 covered jobs in the county that year. A trade job here is not a low-wage job, and a benefit that arrived through negotiation is not automatically a thinner one either.
Health coverage in the building trades commonly runs through a union or Taft-Hartley benefit fund rather than a plan an individual shopped for, and MagnaCare is a network that a meaningful share of those funds contract with. That is the honest reason a MagnaCare page belongs to this county: a large, well paid trade workforce whose coverage tends to arrive bundled with the job rather than bought separately.
That kind of work leaves its own signature on the body. A lower back that never quite unstiffens after year fifteen of framing or pouring concrete, a knee that clicks on every stair, hands that go numb sooner than they used to: two decades in the trades here often turns into chronic pain long before anyone calls it that out loud, and the sleep it disrupts gets written off as just part of getting older rather than something worth naming. A first intake session with an Albany County tradesman commonly starts with a sore shoulder or a bad night’s sleep, not with anything that sounds like a diagnosis, and that is exactly the kind of opening a weekly session is built to work with.
None of that means every construction worker in Albany County needs therapy, or that a sore back by itself is a reason to book a session. A physical ache can be exactly that, ordinary and unremarkable. What the pay and employment figures actually establish is that a trade career here is demanding work, not that any one person in it is struggling, and those are not the same claim.
None of this is a claim about how many Albany County construction workers specifically carry a MagnaCare card, which is not a figure we can verify and will not guess at. The employment and pay numbers describe jobs located in the county. They say nothing about which fund, which local, or which employer plan any individual worker is enrolled in.
Trustees set the number, an insurer does not
Nobody enrolls in MagnaCare the way they enroll in a marketplace plan. It reaches people through a union or Taft-Hartley fund, or through an employer that funds its own coverage and contracts with MagnaCare’s network to administer it. The name on the front of your card is usually the fund’s own name, with a MagnaCare logo printed somewhere smaller.
A group of trustees, or an employer’s benefits team, decided what a therapy visit costs under your specific plan. That decision happened once, during plan design, and it does not change because a different insurer might have priced it differently. It is closer to a negotiated wage schedule than to a retail price list.
That is also why we do not publish a flat MagnaCare copay figure. A number that is true for one Capital Region fund can be wrong for the fund down the street, and a wrong number is worse than none. We check your specific fund’s plan and give you the figure that actually applies before your first session is scheduled.
Copay, coinsurance, deductible, and which one your fund uses
A copay is a flat dollar amount you pay per visit, set once by your fund and unchanged regardless of the visit’s full cost. A deductible is a running total you pay out of pocket before your plan starts sharing the cost at all. Coinsurance is a percentage of the visit’s cost you continue to owe after a deductible is met, rather than a flat amount.
Some fund plans use only a copay. Others run a deductible first and then shift to coinsurance once it is met. A smaller number combine both, a lower copay with coinsurance layered on top for certain services. None of these structures is more or less generous by default. What matters for your bill is which one your specific fund chose, and that is not something printed anywhere on the card itself.
We ask which fund or employer plan you carry as part of booking, then verify the structure directly rather than assuming one design applies to everyone who happens to hold a MagnaCare-network card.
Where the New York copay rule reaches, and where it may not
New York State regulates a rule that caps a therapy copay at whatever your plan charges for a primary care visit, so a mental health visit cannot be singled out for a higher copay than a physical one. It is a real protection, and it applies to New York regulated commercial plans.
It does not reach every fund plan, though. Many union and Taft-Hartley benefit funds are self-funded, meaning the fund itself carries the financial risk rather than buying a regulated insurance policy, and self-funded plans commonly sit outside state insurance law. A self-funded fund can still choose to mirror the state cap voluntarily, but nothing requires it to.
That gap is exactly why “your fund sets it” is the more reliable thing to tell you than “the state caps it.” We do not assume the cap applies to your card. We check whether your specific fund is regulated or self-funded, and confirm the actual cost sharing either way before you book.
Staying in network is the part you control
The one lever that is consistently in your hands, regardless of which fund you carry, is staying in network. An in network visit runs at whatever cost sharing tier your fund built for it, which is the lowest tier most fund plans offer. Going out of network under a fund plan can mean a materially higher bill, a separate and higher deductible, or in some plan designs no coverage for the visit at all.
We are in network for MagnaCare, which means an Albany adult whose fund or employer routes coverage through that network can book here and have the visit apply at the in network rate their plan defines. Confirming that in network status before your first session, rather than assuming it, is part of what the benefit check we run is actually for.
What the card in your wallet actually needs to say
Before you book, look at your card for two things: the fund or employer name printed across the front, and a MagnaCare logo somewhere on it, often smaller and in a corner. Both matter. The fund name tells us which plan design applies to you, and the MagnaCare logo confirms the network.
Booking is online and takes about 30 seconds. From there we verify your specific fund’s benefit and tell you the per-session cost before anything is scheduled, so the number is settled ahead of time rather than discovered on a statement. If your fund covers a spouse or dependent 18 or older, the same check applies to them.
A first session is an intake rather than treatment: what brought you in, the background that matters to it, what you want different, and a baseline reading using standardized measures that later sessions get checked against. From there you set a recurring weekly time, held by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, and the cost is already known before you start.
People come to MindView through a MagnaCare-network fund for anxiety, depression, everyday stress management, the emotional weight that can come with chronic pain or illness, and the specific pressures covered in men’s mental health, along with general therapy for anyone whose reason does not fit neatly into one category. You do not need a diagnosis or a specific reason to book a session; a fund benefit sitting unused is reason enough to check what it actually covers.
What MagnaCare covers here
- •MagnaCare is not sold retail. It reaches members through union and Taft-Hartley benefit funds and through employers that fund their own plans, so the name on the front of the card is usually the fund's, not MagnaCare's.
- •The fund or employer sets your cost sharing, not an insurer. Some funds use a flat copay, some use a deductible and then coinsurance, and some use both together.
- •Staying with an in network provider is what keeps that cost sharing at its lowest tier. Going out of network can mean a materially higher bill or no coverage at all, depending on the fund's design.
- •New York regulated plans cap a therapy copay at the primary care copay, but many fund plans are self-funded and fall outside that state rule. We check which applies to your specific fund.
- •We see adults 18 and older. If your fund covers a spouse or dependent, the same coverage check applies to them.

What does therapy here actually look like?
The first three sessions follow a clear structure, so you always know what is coming next.
- Getting started
Your first session is an intake. Your therapist asks what brought you in and about your history, and you rate the intensity of what you are feeling from 0 to 10. That becomes your baseline. You set a recurring weekly time before you leave.
- Mapping what is behind it
Your therapist walks through your life across stages, looking for the patterns and strengths behind what brought you in. You can decline any question and keep any answer short.
- Writing the plan together
You and your therapist build the plan together. Goals are tied to what you came in for, each with concrete objectives, plus one personal goal that matters to you.
- Ongoing
Weekly sessions work the plan. Once a month you and your therapist review standardized measures together to see whether it is working, and the plan is adjusted from what they show.
Therapy here is measured, not guessed
Once a month you have a measurement-based care review. You complete standardized measures, and your therapist reviews the trend with you. If something is not working, the plan changes. Regular therapy is the work. The review is the navigation system that keeps it pointed at the right target.
Sessions are weekly for the first two months to build a foundation, then frequency is reassessed with you. You set the pace, and you share only what you are comfortable sharing.

MagnaCare questions
My card says my fund's name, not MagnaCare. Am I in the right place?
Almost certainly yes. A fund card is printed with the fund's own name across the front, and the MagnaCare logo sits somewhere smaller, often a corner or the back. Bring the card exactly as printed and we check the network it runs on rather than asking you to interpret it yourself.
I work in the building trades around Albany. Why can you not just tell me the copay?
Because a fund's trustees wrote that number, not an insurer. Two Albany County members working the same trade can carry different fund cards with different copay, coinsurance or deductible designs, so a single published figure would be wrong for someone. We look up your specific fund and give you the number before you book.
Does New York law cap my therapy copay at my primary care copay?
On New York regulated plans, yes, that cap applies. It does not reach coverage an employer buys outside New York or funds itself directly, and a meaningful share of union and Taft-Hartley plans are self-funded. That gap is exactly why we verify your specific plan rather than quoting the state rule as a promise.
Can my spouse or dependent book with the same card?
If your fund extends coverage to a spouse or dependent, the same MagnaCare network usually applies to them too. We see adults 18 and older only. We verify the dependent's specific benefit the same way we verify yours, before any session is scheduled.
Is there a MindView office in Albany?
No. Every Albany session is held by secure video with a clinician licensed in New York, from anywhere in the state. MindView's offices exist as offices, never as a place a client is seen in person, and none of them is in Albany.
