Two people can be perfectly polite to each other and still be quietly starving for connection. The dishes get done, the calendar holds, nobody is yelling, and neither of you can remember the last real conversation that was not about logistics. MindView Therapy provides couples therapy and marriage counseling for adults across Fort Wayne, entirely by telehealth, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna.
What brings couples in
Married or not, engaged or together for years, the patterns that bring a couple to counseling look alike. What we hear at the first session:
- The same fight, different clothes. Money this week, a relative next week, the surface topic changes and the structure never does.
- One chases, one retreats. One partner presses to resolve things now, the other shuts down to keep the peace, and each move makes the other’s worse.
- A marriage running on logistics. The household functions. The closeness left quietly, and neither of you noticed exactly when.
- A broken trust. Infidelity, a hidden debt, a lie that surfaced, with no shared map for what happens next.
- Apologies that do not land. Someone says sorry, nothing actually changes, because the real injury was never named out loud.
- A decision neither of you can make alone. Whether to stay, whether to try again, whether the marriage still has a future worth building.
Whether you use the word couples or the word marriage, the work is the same. See our couples therapy and marriage counseling pages.
How we work with a couple
The core reframe: the problem is usually the pattern, not either person. One partner’s move makes sense given what they are reacting to, and together those moves form a cycle neither of you designed and both of you maintain. Naming that cycle out loud is where the work starts.
Sessions draw on emotionally focused therapy for the attachment fears underneath the fighting, family and marital therapy for the roles and structure of a shared life, and cognitive behavioral therapy for concrete tools: how to raise a hard subject without it landing as an attack, how to hear a complaint without treating it as a verdict, how to pause a conversation that has gone from useful to destructive and pick it back up later instead of finishing it badly.
We work with communication issues, couples conflict resolution, infidelity and rebuilding trust, premarital counseling, and divorce counseling when the honest answer points that direction. Read more at what to expect in a first couples session.
Couples in Fort Wayne
The CDC’s PLACES 2025 release puts Fort Wayne at 26.5 percent diagnosed depression and 18.4 percent frequent poor mental health days among adults, close to the Allen County figures of 26.1 and 17.4 percent. Individual strain and relationship strain do not sit in separate boxes: untreated depression or anxiety in one partner routinely gets misread by the other as not caring, and the misreading becomes its own fight.
Access matters more for two people than for one. HRSA designates the surrounding area as a geographic mental health shortage region, “MHCA 20 - Adams/Allen/Wells Counties,” scoring 12 out of 25 with roughly one provider for every 30,286 residents across a population near 445,197. For a couple, that scarcity means coordinating two calendars around one scarce appointment slot, which is exactly the kind of friction that keeps struggling couples from ever getting in the door.
Fort Wayne’s winters add a scheduling variable of their own. NOAA’s 1991-2020 climate normals put average snowfall at 33.6 inches a year, with the December solstice bringing roughly 9 hours and 13 minutes of daylight. Video sessions mean neither of you loses the appointment to a closed road. We serve Downtown, Aboite, Southwest Fort Wayne, North Anthony, Waynedale, New Haven and Huntertown, and both of you can join from wherever you each are that day.
Starting when only one of you is convinced
Most couples do not arrive equally ready. One partner has usually done the research, read a page like this one, and made the call, while the other agreed to a single session out of goodwill more than conviction. That imbalance is normal and it does not need to be resolved before you start. The work then opens into your fuller context, at a pace you set, and becomes a treatment plan you help write, including a goal that is yours alone.
Insurance for couples therapy in Fort Wayne
In Indiana we are in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna. Coverage for couples work can differ from individual coverage, so we check your specific benefits before the first session and tell you what you will pay.
Getting started
The first session is an intake with both partners: what brought you in, what each of you wants from the work, and a baseline for where things stand. The early work fills in the wider context, at your pace, and produces a written treatment plan built with you rather than handed to you.

Common questions
Is marriage counseling different from couples therapy here? No. The method is identical whether or not you are married. Married couples more often bring in-laws, finances and a longer shared history into session; the work itself does not change.
What if my partner refuses to come? Start on your own. Working your side of the pattern changes the pattern, and a partner who said no initially will sometimes join later once sessions stop feeling like a trial.
Can we join a session from two different places? Yes, as long as both of you are physically in Indiana during the session. Couples juggling different shifts or one partner traveling use this often.
Will the therapist decide who is right? No. The target is the cycle between you, not a verdict. If something genuinely harmful is happening it gets named plainly, but nobody is put on trial.
We are not sure we want to stay together. Is it still worth starting? Yes. Making that decision deliberately, with support, tends to leave both people clearer than deciding by attrition or silence.
Does the Fort Wayne winter make things harder on a marriage? A long stretch of short days and closed-in weeks can concentrate stress that was already there. Starting before the worst of it gives you tools to use when the pressure actually arrives.
