The garage project has been at ninety percent for a year. The inbox has 4,000 unread messages you have made peace with. You can focus for six hours straight on something interesting and six minutes on something that is not, and you have spent a long time calling that a discipline problem. MindView Therapy provides ADHD therapy for adults across Fort Wayne, by telehealth, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna and Aetna.
A brain, not a character flaw
Adult ADHD is not a shortage of willpower. It is a difference in how the brain manages starting, sequencing, and time itself, and it shows up in patterns that look like laziness from the outside and feel like fighting your own hands from the inside.
What we hear most often:
- Starting is the hard part, not finishing. Once a task is moving, momentum carries it. Getting it moving in the first place can eat an entire morning.
- Time is either now or not-now. A deadline three weeks out barely registers as real until it collapses into an emergency.
- Hyperfocus that will not release you. Three hours vanish into one interesting task while three boring ones sit untouched.
- A house or inbox full of half-finished systems. Planners, apps, folders, all abandoned within a few weeks, each abandonment adding to a private sense of failure.
- Interrupting, or being accused of not listening. Often it is the opposite: too many thoughts arriving at once to hold them in order.
- Emotional weather that turns fast. A small criticism can land like a verdict, out of proportion to what was actually said.
None of this is a motivation problem you can outwork. It responds to specific structure, and that structure is what treatment builds.
What ADHD therapy actually builds
We work from cognitive behavioral therapy, adapted for how ADHD brains actually operate. The goal is not more willpower. It is external scaffolding: one calendar instead of five, tasks broken small enough to start without deciding anything first, written capture so nothing critical lives only in memory, and defined blocks of time that generate urgency where internal motivation will not reliably show up.
This is skills-based work, not diagnostic testing and not medication management. MindView clinicians do not test for ADHD or prescribe, though your therapist will coordinate with a prescriber if medication becomes part of the picture. Still working out whether this is even ADHD? Start with can a therapist diagnose ADHD? and the types of ADHD. We also treat rejection sensitive dysphoria, the outsized emotional sting that trails so many ADHD adults after years of being called careless. Full picture at how we treat ADHD.
Progress is tracked rather than felt out. You set a baseline at intake, and monthly you and your therapist review standardized measures against it, so a rough week does not erase three good months from memory.
ADHD in Fort Wayne
CDC’s PLACES 2025 release puts diagnosed depression among Fort Wayne adults at 26.5 percent and frequent poor mental health days at 18.4 percent, both above the Allen County figures of 26.1 and 17.4 percent. ADHD is not tracked in that dataset, but it rarely travels alone. Anxiety and low mood are common companions to unmanaged ADHD, especially after years of missed deadlines and strained relationships wear a person down, and untreated ADHD is one of the quieter contributors to numbers like these.
HRSA designates the surrounding region, “MHCA 20 - Adams/Allen/Wells Counties,” as a geographic mental health shortage area, scoring 12 out of 25, with a ratio of roughly one provider for every 30,286 people across a population near 445,197. Unlike the shortage designations tied to income eligibility, this one covers the whole area, which means the wait for a specialist appointment in Allen County is a shared local condition, not an edge case.
Winter compounds the scheduling problem. Fort Wayne averages 33.6 inches of snow a year per NOAA’s 1991-2020 climate normals, and the December solstice brings about 9 hours and 13 minutes of daylight. An ADHD brain that already struggles with time and follow-through does not do well with a canceled session rescheduled three weeks out because of a snow day. We serve Downtown, Aboite, Southwest Fort Wayne, North Anthony, Waynedale, New Haven and Huntertown, all by secure video, so a storm changes nothing about whether the appointment happens.

Common questions
Do I need a formal ADHD diagnosis before starting? No. Many adults start therapy while still deciding whether ADHD explains the pattern. Skills work can begin regardless, and your therapist will speak plainly about what fits.
Is this a substitute for an ADHD evaluation? No. MindView therapists do not conduct formal ADHD testing. If a diagnostic evaluation makes sense, your therapist can point you toward that resource while therapy continues.
I was diagnosed as a kid and stopped treatment years ago. Is it too late to restart? No. ADHD does not expire, and a lot of adults return to it after the coping systems that carried them through their twenties stop scaling.
Does the Fort Wayne winter make ADHD symptoms worse? Executive function and daylight are connected for a lot of people, and a long stretch of short, gray days can make starting things even harder than usual. That is a reason to build the systems before winter sets in, not just during it.
Can therapy help if I am already on medication? Often, yes. Medication can sharpen focus, but it does not build a filing system or decide what deserves your attention first. Many clients do both together.
What if I think it is anxiety, not ADHD? Worth sorting out early, since they can look alike and often overlap. The intake session is built to help tell the difference and treat what is actually there.
