Depression is the condition where the illness attacks the exact ability you need to treat it. Getting help requires phone calls, forms, and follow-through, and depression takes those first. That is why “just make an appointment” is harder advice than it sounds, and it is why a therapy search that ends in three voicemails and a waitlist so often ends the attempt entirely.
MindView Therapy provides depression therapy for adults across Fort Wayne by secure video, in-network with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Cigna, and Aetna. Booking takes about 30 seconds, we respond within one business day, and we are accepting new clients now.
Depression is not sadness, and the difference changes the treatment
Sadness has a subject. Depression frequently does not. What people describe to us is flatness rather than grief: waking already tired, food that tastes like nothing in particular, a phone you do not answer, and an internal narrator that has turned mean and sounds reasonable. Some people cry. A great many do not, and then assume they are not depressed enough to qualify. That assumption keeps people untreated for years.
Two presentations deserve naming here because Fort Wayne produces a lot of both. The first is high-functioning depression, where you keep going to work and nobody notices, and the whole thing is invisible because the output never dropped. The second is the seasonal pattern. Northeast Indiana winters are long and genuinely low on daylight, and seasonal affective depression is a real diagnosis with real treatment, not a joke about February. If your mood reliably bottoms out between November and March, that is a clinical pattern worth treating on a schedule rather than enduring annually.
How the treatment works
Depression sustains itself through withdrawal. You feel flat, so you do less, and doing less removes the sources of reward that would lift the mood, which produces more flatness. It is a downward spiral with a specific mechanism, and that mechanism is treatable.
Our depression work runs on cognitive behavioral therapy, which attacks it from two directions. Behavioral activation rebuilds activity first, deliberately and in small increments, on the finding that action precedes motivation in depression rather than the other way around. Cognitive work then goes after the thinking, the global and permanent conclusions depression draws from ordinary bad days. More on how we treat depression.
The standardized measures, and why the number matters
Depression distorts memory for mood. When you are in it, you remember having always been in it, which makes self-assessed progress unreliable in exactly the direction that causes people to quit.
So we measure. You and your therapist review standardized measures against a baseline set at the start, and they catch improvement that your memory will not. They also catch the opposite: if weeks of work have not moved the number, that is information, and the plan changes rather than the effort simply continuing.
You are not an unusual case here. 26.5% of Fort Wayne adults report a depression diagnosis, the highest rate of any city we serve (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data), which is worth knowing when the illness is telling you that everyone else is coping fine. Our free, private depression test gives you a starting number before you book.
Why video removes the specific barrier depression creates
We do not have an office in Fort Wayne, and we will not imply otherwise. Care here runs by secure video with an Indiana-licensed therapist, which is how every session at MindView runs everywhere.
For depression that matters more than it does for most conditions. The single biggest predictor of whether therapy works is whether you keep attending, and depression erodes attendance first. Removing the drive, the parking, and the getting-dressed-for-a-waiting-room removes exactly the friction that turns a bad week into a missed session and a missed session into a dropped course of treatment. On the worst days, the appointment is fifteen feet away instead of across town. Sessions reach anywhere in Allen County, from downtown and West Central to Aboite, Waynedale, New Haven, Huntertown, and Leo-Cedarville. More on our Fort Wayne page.
What the work looks like
The early sessions establish what brought you in, how long it has been, and what has changed in sleep, appetite, energy and interest, along with the broader history, because depression usually has context.
From there you and your therapist write a plan with goals small enough to actually hit. In depression treatment the early goals are deliberately modest by design, not because anyone is underestimating you. Weekly sessions follow, with something to practice in between.
Isolation is the local aggravator worth planning around. 33.9% of Fort Wayne households are a person living alone, and 33.4% of adults here report feeling lonely (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B11001; CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data). Depression pulls people toward withdrawal, and living alone removes the friction that would otherwise interrupt it, which is why rebuilding contact usually belongs in the plan rather than waiting until the mood lifts.
In-network with the major Indiana plans
We verify your benefits and tell you your real cost before the first session, because a surprise bill is the last thing a depressed person needs to handle.
Who you will work with

Questions people ask before booking
Do I need medication? Not necessarily, and that is not decided on this page. Therapy alone is an effective first-line treatment for many people with depression; others do best with therapy plus medication from a prescriber. Your therapist will give you an honest read and can coordinate with your doctor. MindView clinicians do not prescribe.
What if I cannot tell whether I am depressed or just worn down? That is a common and reasonable place to start, and it is a question the intake is designed to answer. You do not need to arrive with the diagnosis.
I have felt this way for years. Is it too late? No. Long-standing depression is treatable, and the measurement approach matters more, not less, when the baseline has been low for a long time.
If you are in crisis
If you are having thoughts of harming yourself, do not wait for an appointment. Call or text 988, any hour, free and confidential. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. We are an outpatient practice and not a crisis service, and we would rather say that plainly than have you wait on a form.
How to get started
You do not need a referral or a diagnosis. The early sessions establish what is going on and where it came from, you and your therapist write the plan together, and weekly sessions work it from there.
Choose a time and book at choose your therapist. It takes about 30 seconds. You can also call (646) 493-4007. We are accepting new clients and respond within one business day.
Is there a better time of year to start? Earlier helps. Fort Wayne averages 33.6 inches of snow a year in the NOAA 1991 to 2020 normals and gets about nine hours and thirteen minutes of daylight at the December solstice. Reduced light and reduced activity are two of the mechanisms depression runs on, so beginning in early autumn means the routine is already in place when the hardest weeks arrive. If the pattern repeats every year, seasonal affective disorder is worth reading about.
