Why MindView

Most Family therapy in Queens has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Queens deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

Families usually arrive having already decided who the problem is. Sometimes the nominated person agrees. That agreement is generally the thing standing in the way, because it holds one person responsible for a sequence that takes at least two to run.

MindView Therapy provides family therapy for adults and their households across Queens, online by secure video.

What family therapy actually treats

The pattern between people, not the person elected to carry it. The work is on the loop: what one person does, how the next responds, what that sets off, and how everyone lands back in the same position with a bit more resentment than last time.

Nobody is put on trial. Your therapist stays balanced on purpose, because a session that becomes a prosecution produces one person who never returns and no change at all.

Not everyone needs to be in every session. Families often assume it is pointless unless the whole household participates, and that is not true. One person changing their part of a loop changes the loop.

What we offer, and what we do not

Adults 18 and over. That is the constraint worth knowing before you book: we do not provide child or adolescent therapy, so this works when the participants are adults. Adult siblings, parents and adult children, adult children and aging parents, and blended-family adults are all routine.

If the person you are worried about is a minor, we are not the right service and we will say so rather than take the booking. We are not a crisis service, we do not do custody evaluations, and we do not write reports or letters for court.

Sessions run weekly and reach anywhere in Queens by secure video, which for a household spread across several addresses in the borough is usually the only way the whole group is ever in one place at one time.

What a session involves

Everyone present talks, and everyone present gets interrupted from time to time, because families are highly practiced at a version of the conversation that goes nowhere and part of the job is to stop it going there again.

The material is concrete: how something gets raised, what repair looks like after it goes badly, what each person is actually asking for underneath the complaint. Progress is reviewed against goals set together, with standardized measures.

We work on family therapy, communication issues, parenting concerns with adult children, intergenerational trauma, caregiver burnout, and life transitions that reshuffle everyone’s role at once.

Doing this work in Queens

Family therapy in this borough is frequently cross-generational and cross-cultural at the same time, and that is the piece a generic approach misses.

66.0% of Queens households are family households, well above Buffalo or Syracuse (US Census Bureau, ACS 2020-2024 five-year estimates, table B11001). Households here are larger, more likely to be multi-generational, and more likely to include adults who came from somewhere else alongside adults who grew up here. The result is that a lot of what looks like an ordinary family conflict is actually a negotiation between two sets of assumptions about obligation: what adult children owe parents, what is decided collectively rather than individually, what is private and what belongs to the family.

Neither set of assumptions is the correct one, and a therapist who treated one as the healthy default would be doing something other than therapy. The work is helping a family build an arrangement that the people in it can actually live with, which usually differs from what either generation started with.

Practical pressure sits underneath a lot of it. 22.0% of Queens adults report food insecurity (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data), and when several adults share a household because separating is financially out of reach, ordinary disagreements begin carrying weight that belongs to the housing market rather than the family.

Video solves the scheduling problem, which is the reason most family therapy never starts. Getting four adults with four different shift patterns into one room at one time is close to impossible in this borough. People can join from three different places, as long as everyone is in New York during the session.

Insurance

We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare.

Coverage for family sessions varies by plan more than individual therapy does and often depends on the reason for the visit. We check yours and tell you what it does and does not cover before you start.

Questions families ask before booking

One person will not come. Start without them. Working with whoever is willing is not a consolation prize, and reluctant members often join later once it is clear nobody is being ambushed.

Can we join from different homes? Yes, as long as everyone is in New York during the session.

Will you tell us who is right? No. Deciding who is at fault is what the family has already been doing.

Do you see children? No. Adults 18 and over only.
