Why MindView

Most Anger management in Buffalo has no structure. Ours has four stages and a scoreboard.

Most practices in Buffalo deliver whatever approach the therapist you happened to get was trained in. We run one format for every client, and we measure it.

  1. 01

    Intake

What is actually going on, rated 0 to 10 as your baseline.

  2. 02

    Your history

Why it is happening. History, relationships, work, health.

  3. 03

    Treatment plan

Written and collaborative, built against those causes.

  4. 04

    Monthly review

Standardized measures, reviewed with you. You see the trend.

A license is where our training starts, not where it ends.

Every clinician is state-licensed before they see a single client. Then they train with us across every modality, and how to match one to the problem in front of them.

The problem is rarely that you get angry. It is the distance between fine and furious, how little warning there is, and the things you say in that window that you would never say twenty minutes earlier or an hour later.

MindView Therapy provides anger management therapy for adults across Buffalo and Western New York, online by secure video.

What anger management actually is

Not learning to stop feeling angry. Anger is information, and people who successfully suppress it usually end up with the same eruption on a longer delay.

The goal is to widen the gap between the trigger and what you do next. That means learning to catch the physical build early, when it is still jaw and shoulders and heat rather than full escalation, and having a response available that is not the one you have been running on autopilot for fifteen years.

Anger also usually sits on top of something else. Underneath it is often hurt, fear, humiliation or plain exhaustion, and the work stalls if it only ever addresses the surface. In Buffalo, 32.1% of adults report no leisure-time physical activity (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data), which matters here because the body has fewer ordinary routes to discharge what it is carrying.

What we offer, and what we do not

We offer weekly individual therapy for adults 18 and over, by video, using cognitive behavioral methods.

We do not provide court-mandated anger management classes and we do not issue completion certificates for legal or employment requirements. If a court, an employer or a licensing board has told you to complete a specific program, this is probably not the thing they asked for. Check what the requirement actually names before booking, because we would rather tell you now than after four sessions.

Sessions reach anywhere in Buffalo and Western New York, so treatment does not depend on which practices happen to have openings within driving distance of you.

This is also individual therapy rather than a group class. If what you want is a structured curriculum with other people in the room, that is a different format.

What a session involves

You bring the incident. Not the summary, the actual sequence: what happened, what you noticed in your body, what you thought, what you did, what followed. Somewhere in that chain is a point where something else was possible, and that is where a skill gets attached.

Then you rehearse it and agree how you will practice. The rehearsal is not decoration. A strategy you have only talked about is not available at the moment your jaw sets.

We work with anger, the stress and burnout that shorten the fuse, mood swings, and the relationship struggles that both cause anger and get damaged by it. Where the intensity rather than the content is the obstacle, dialectical behavior therapy skills are often the better fit.

Doing this work in Buffalo

Sleep is the piece most people here have not connected to the problem. 43.5% of Buffalo adults report sleeping less than seven hours a night (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2022 BRFSS data). Short sleep lowers the threshold at which anger fires, so a person running a chronic deficit is starting every day with less room between trigger and reaction. A meaningful number of clients get their first real improvement from fixing sleep rather than from any anger-specific technique, and it is one of the first things your therapist will ask about.

Load matters too. 16.5% of Buffalo adults currently smoke, the highest rate of the New York cities we serve (CDC PLACES, 2025 release, based on 2023 BRFSS data), and that is worth raising because nicotine withdrawal across a working day is a reliable, unglamorous driver of irritability that people almost never connect to their temper.

Then there is the winter. December through March keeps people indoors and in closer contact with the same few people for months, with fewer of the ordinary outlets that discharge irritation. Anger that was manageable when there was somewhere to go often stops being manageable in February.

We are in-network with UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS WNY, Univera Healthcare and MagnaCare. We check your plan and tell you your cost before the first session.

Questions people ask before booking

My partner told me to come. Does that work? Often, yes, though it works better once you can name something you want out of it too. That usually arrives in the first session or two.

Do you report to a court or an employer? No. We do not provide mandated programs or completion certificates.

Will I be told I am a bad person? No. The premise is that the reaction is a trained pattern that can be retrained, which is a different thing from a verdict on you.

I have never hit anyone. Is this still for me? Yes. Most people who book have never been violent. The cost is usually in what gets said and what it does to the people around them.

If things are unsafe at home

If anyone in your household is frightened of you, or you are frightened of someone else, that needs addressing directly and quickly. Tell your therapist at intake. If you are in immediate danger, call 911. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233.
