This free anxiety test is the GAD-7, a seven-question screener used in medical and mental health settings to measure anxiety severity over the past two weeks. It takes under two minutes, scores from 0 to 21, and returns an instant result with a plain-language explanation. It is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

What this measures
Anxiety severity over the last two weeks. Time frame: over the last 2 weeks.
This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. It can tell you how your answers compare to established ranges. It cannot tell you what is causing them, whether something else explains them, or what you should do next. Only a licensed clinician can do that, in a conversation.

Over the last 2 weeks
Over the last 2 weeks, how often have you been bothered by the following problems?
Answer every question to see your result.
Your result
0
out of 0-21
A score of 10 or higher is the point at which clinicians typically look more closely. It is not a diagnosis.
What this result is not
This is a screening score, not a diagnosis, and not medical advice. It reflects how you answered today. It cannot account for your history, your circumstances, a medical condition, a medication, or anything else that might explain these answers. If the result matches what you have been experiencing, the useful next step is a conversation with a licensed professional - not a second test.
Your score is not saved. Leaving or refreshing this page clears it.
About the GAD-7
The GAD-7 is the standard brief screener for generalized anxiety. It is used in primary care and mental health settings worldwide, and it also picks up reasonably well on panic, social anxiety, and PTSD - though it was designed for generalized anxiety specifically.
Each of the seven questions asks how often a symptom bothered you over the past two weeks, scored 0 to 3, for a total between 0 and 21. Higher totals indicate more symptoms.
Two questions from this scale - feeling nervous or on edge, and not being able to stop worrying - make up the GAD-2, an even shorter version sometimes used as a quick first pass.
Anxiety is one of the most treatable things we see. At MindView Therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy is the primary approach, and we track scores like this one over time so progress is measured rather than assumed.
Anxiety Test questions
Is this anxiety test accurate?
The GAD-7 is a well-validated screening instrument with strong research support, and this is the standard seven-item version with standard scoring. It reflects how you answered on one day, though, and it screens rather than diagnoses. A diagnosis requires a clinical evaluation.
What is a normal GAD-7 score?
Scores of 0 to 4 are considered minimal, 5 to 9 mild, 10 to 14 moderate, and 15 to 21 severe. A score of 10 or higher is the common threshold at which clinicians look more closely.
Is this anxiety test free and anonymous?
Yes. It is free, requires no email or sign-up, and your answers never leave your device. Everything is scored in your browser and nothing is transmitted, saved, or stored by us.
Can this test tell me if I have an anxiety disorder?
No. It measures how severe your anxiety symptoms have been, which is different from diagnosing a disorder. Diagnosis considers duration, context, other possible causes, and how much the symptoms interfere with your life - which takes a conversation with a licensed clinician.
How we treat anxietyWhat is the difference between the GAD-7 and the GAD-2?
The GAD-2 is the first two questions of the GAD-7, used as a very quick screen. If those two suggest anxiety, the full seven-question version gives a more useful measure of severity. This page uses the full GAD-7.
My score was low but I still feel anxious. What does that mean?
The GAD-7 measures generalized anxiety specifically. Anxiety that is focused on one thing - social situations, health, a specific fear, or panic attacks - can leave this score low while still being significant. A low score is not a reason to dismiss what you are experiencing.
