Quick answer

Is couples therapy covered by insurance?

Often, yes. Many commercial plans cover couples therapy when the sessions are part of one partner's mental health care, and some plans exclude relationship counseling on its own. Coverage depends on your specific plan, not just your insurer. MindView Therapy is in-network with most major plans in New York and Indiana, and we verify your couples coverage before your first session, so you know before you book.

Does insurance cover marriage counseling?

The same rules apply. Insurers do not treat marriage counseling differently from couples therapy; both are billed as couples sessions. Whether your plan covers them depends on its behavioral health benefits, not on whether you are married. If your plan covers couples sessions, it covers them for married and unmarried partners alike.

How do I find out if my plan covers couples therapy?

You can call the member services number on your insurance card and ask whether your plan covers couples or family psychotherapy sessions, what the copay is, and whether a deductible applies. Or skip the phone tree: book with MindView and we run the benefits check for you before your first appointment and tell you exactly what your plan covers.

Which insurance plans does MindView accept for couples therapy?

In Queens: UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, and MagnaCare. In Buffalo: UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS, Highmark BCBS WNY, and Univera Healthcare. In Carmel, Indiana: Aetna, Cigna, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, by telehealth. Being in-network is what keeps your cost to a copay rather than the full session fee.

What if my plan does not cover couples sessions?

You can still come. Out-of-pocket couples sessions at MindView are $200 with an LMHC or $150 with a limited permit clinician, with a first-session intake at $225 or $200, and sliding scale rates are available based on financial need. Some couples also use HSA or FSA funds. If cost is the deciding factor, tell us when you book.

What we do that a benefits phone call does not: before your first session, MindView checks your specific plan’s behavioral health benefits for couples sessions and tells you your actual copay or coinsurance. You decide whether to book with the real number in hand, not an estimate.
