Quick answer

Does health insurance cover online therapy?

Usually, yes. Most major health insurance plans now cover online therapy with a licensed therapist the same way they cover office visits, with the same copay or coinsurance. New York requires state-regulated plans to cover telehealth services that would be covered in person, and Medicare covers mental health telehealth including sessions from home. Every plan MindView Therapy accepts covers our telehealth sessions, and we verify your benefits before you book.

Is online therapy covered the same as in-person therapy?

With most plans, yes. Telehealth sessions with an in-network therapist are typically billed as the same service as an office visit, so your copay or coinsurance is the same. A small number of plans handle telehealth differently, which is exactly the kind of detail a benefits check catches before you book rather than after.

Which insurers cover online therapy at MindView?

All of them. Every plan we are in-network with covers our telehealth sessions: UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, and MagnaCare in Queens; UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Medicare, Oscar Health, Meritain Health, Oxford Health Plans, Cigna, Optum, Highmark BCBS, Highmark BCBS WNY, and Univera Healthcare in Buffalo; and Aetna, Cigna, and Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield in Carmel, Indiana, where care is telehealth.

Does Medicare cover online therapy?

Yes. Medicare covers behavioral health by telehealth, including video therapy sessions from your home, and this benefit is permanent for mental health care. Standard Part B cost-sharing applies: the deductible, then 20 percent coinsurance, which supplemental coverage often picks up. MindView accepts Medicare at our Queens and Buffalo locations.

What do I need for an online therapy session?

A phone, tablet, or computer with a camera, a reasonable internet connection, and a private place to talk for the session. You must be physically located in a state where your therapist is licensed, which for MindView means New York or Indiana. There is no app to buy and no account setup beyond the booking itself.

The distinction that matters: insurance-covered telehealth vs. subscription apps

Insurance covers online therapy when it is a real psychotherapy session with a licensed clinician. It generally does not cover messaging-app subscriptions or coaching products, which sit outside your behavioral health benefits and bill your card directly.

The practical difference at MindView: a telehealth session here is the same 45 to 60 minute session with the same LMHC you would see in our Jamaica or Buffalo office, billed to your plan the same way. If you live anywhere in New York or Indiana, you can use your in-network benefits without traveling to an office. We confirm what your plan covers before your first session, so the first bill is never a surprise.
